How it Works

​The Fastprk system is based on individual parking sensors installed in each parking bay. The sensors guide drivers via electronic dynamic message signs (DMS). Once a car parks over a sensor, it is detected and the sensor wirelessly relays information to the gateway.

By means of the integrated software solution the parking operations centre obtains real-time information on single parking bay availability and turnover. The system can be connected to other existing platforms such as any indoor parking system for more efficient use of each parking space.

One single gateway covers an area of about 1km2. Gateways use the Internet or the network to send information to the parking operations centre's software (server) in real time. Occupied spaces are instantly visible to users via an app and LED dynamic message signs (DMS). By having real-time information on parking space usage, parking wardens can work more effectively and ensure an optimal service for citizens.

Data Collection

Fastprk uses electro-magnetic sensors to accurately detect the presence of vehicles. All sensors have a minimum detection rate of 95% due to advanced and proprietary computing algorithms implemented in the sensors and the server. The Fastprk system is built to perform in magnetically challenging environments thanks to its capacity to dynamically adjust its calibration values and vehicle detection thresholds. Advanced signal processing algorithms can filter out environmental magnetic fields which results in a more precise detection.

Fastprk’s communication protocol is based on standard and certified technologies. Sensors communicate with their gateways wirelessly in a single hop. Gateways can be located within a radius of up to 500m. They forward all data to the database servers. This approach offers significant savings, as there is no need for spending associated costs on either repeaters or a mesh network.

Real-Time Data Management

The Fastprk system includes a software suite prepared to manage large volumes of data in real time. The suite enables parking operators or service providers to manage all parking operations from a single interface.

The solution features powerful data management, visualisation and analytical capabilities which allow operators to manage parking timely and efficiently. The suite offers multiple APIs to connect to 3rd party systems.

Several tools are provided with the suite to help deploy and operate the system, from sensor calibration and field deployment tools to device management, real-time data feeds and network management and business intelligence applications.

Field Development

​All sensors are flush-mounted and IP67 compliant. It only takes a few minutes to install a flush-mounted sensor using standardised drilling tools. Especially in cities, both the flush-mounted sensor as well as the gateway blend in perfectly with their surroundings due to their minimal design and due to not needing repeaters.

Thanks to its advanced radio technology, deploying the wireless system is flexible, simple and cost-effective. Because Fastprk is compatible with all LoRa® and Sigfox® networks, the system does not require expensive additional communication devices on lampposts or street furniture.
